The Path Ahead

2 minute read

Lately I’ve been feeling lonely, like a failure. The past year has been slow but consistent progress in all fronts but no final outcomes to boast of. At best, we’ve achieved significant interim milestones. I am not sure if I’m ungrateful to the progress that we did make or if I must take this as an indication that I am not doing enough. Truth be told, I feel like I’ve been slacking a lot this past year and half or two. My self-discipline has deteriorated, my utilization of time has been quite poor and my consistency has been questionable. Perhaps no one else could attest to this as truthfully as I can because I am involved in so many projects. Not everyone gets to see all of it but me.

My first problem is that I don’t wake up early enough. I need to go back to the 4am days back when I was at Isha, if not those 3am days that I had for a while. Perhaps I can replace the 4hrs of yoga with 2hrs of yoga, 1 hour of meditation and one hour of calisthenics. Then I eat breakfast and get ready for the day. I must be ready to start the day in all fronts by 9am. I start the day with nearly 15 minutes of visualization of how I’m going to spend the rest of the day and what I want to have achieved by then. Then I verify that my calendar is setup to tackle all aspects of my day ahead. First I have 2 hours of focused study session in all the new technologies that I’m trying to learn. I plan to stream this and let others join these study sessions. Then I take an hour break and eat or just relax. Then I start 2 hours of intense project building sessions. This is the practical side of the learning. We could all work together to build various aspects of the project.

I’m planning to build a community around learning alone. We could have cycles of alternating blocks where in one block we decide to build a certain product and the next, we start to learn a new technology. So the product development blocks could be 8 weeks long and we could spend the block into various stages:-

  1. Brainstorming
    1. Outlining objectives
  2. Blueprinting
    1. UX Prototyping
    2. User stories
    3. Establishing timeline
  3. Development & DevOps
  4. Testing
  5. Launch

And the learning blocks would be 4 weeks long and involve daily slots for when we will either be studying or prototyping or brainstorming to advance our knowledge.

And both these could form a batch and we could have several batches throughout the year. We will certainly need to have breaks in between the batches that I can use to do other things, like travel, have extended periods of spending time with family among other things. I want to build a schedule and a lifestyle where I can have these personal allocations for extended vacations and time with family without any apology.

Deep down I really want to power my global travel adventures through my lifestyle of learning and teaching advanced technologies. The next year of effort is going to be crucial in getting that started off. This is a crucial turn in my life.
